NEXT EINSTEIN FORUM (NEF) AFRICA SCIENCE WEEK

The Next Einstein Forum's (NEF) Africa Science Week (ASW) is Africa's annual weeklong celebration of science and technology with thousands of individuals – from students, to scientists to technologists – actively engaging in coordinated science events across the continent throughout September 2018. The Gambia participated in this year’s event for the first time organized by Next Einstein Fellow David Jeng and partners.

This weeklong event saw students from as low as Grade 1 get involved in Robotics Competitions. More mature students delved into a 2-Day Hackathon event. The Hackathon theme looked at social needs and the results were an App to manage Student data in a school setting and other interesting packages.

The Science week then convened at the grounds of the University of The Gambia where advanced science experiments were performed by the students. The week long event wrapped with a recognition ceremony of Women in STEM of which our very own ITAG Vice President, Mrs Beran Dondeh-Gillen was recognized as a Woman in STEM.

The Event was a huge success and will be an annual event henceforth.
